RHEO THOMPSON CANDIES
The story of Rhéo Thompson Candies, Ltd. began in 1969 when Rhéo Thompson apprenticed in the production of candy at Olin Brown Candies, Stratford. Later, relying essentially on used equipment — only the bare necessities such as a natural gas stove, a copper kettle and a thermometer — Rhéo began his own candy making facility. In those early days, the candy was made in the evening and sold on Saturday mornings at the Stratford’s Farmer’s Market, in a booth rented for 50 cents.
The legacy of Rhéo Thompson Candies lives on in the contented smiles of those who fancy a savory treat!
In 1994 Johan De Greef started Saxon Chocolates by making chocolates in his home kitchen. In 2011, Saxon’s Molten Cake mix makes Oprah’s “favourite things” list.

In 1960, Hugh and Isabelle Reid became the new owners on Main St. where they operated the store successfully for the next 11 years. In 1971, when the store moved to the south side of Main St., Tom and Kathy Drew-Smith purchased the business and Reids began to offer handmade chocolates and confections.
Now owned and operated by brother and sister team, Ted Drew-Smith and Carrie Peart, Reids continues to move forward with the family tradition of great customer service and quality products.
